What does hosting an event of such magnitude mean to the Indian Army?
It is a matter of great pride and a sign of India's growing stature in the international arena. Seventy-eight countries have already confirmed their participation in the event, and we are expecting nearly 100 countries to turn up for the games in October. We are confident that the event will prove that the country can host similar events in the future.
What arrangements have gone into the event?
A special shooting range, Lake Line Ranges, for the 200 and 300-metre wing of the competition is coming up at Bolarum cantonment. A special
arena for the military pentathlon is being constructed at the Mehdipatnam cantonment for this purpose. Six games villages are coming up to accommodate the 6000 odd athletes and various officials, who will visit the city for the games. A range of festivities will be on during the games. They will showcase the best of our tradition , art and culture to ensure visitors. A special monument is being constructed at the Polo Grounds in Bolarum. It will be ready by October.

How has Hyderabad's response been?
It got a luke warm response in the beginning, but gradually, people's interest has increased. A state-wide car rally organised by us has been a huge success. Many events are on the anvil. They will be a part of the countdown to the event, and will be held on the 75th and 50th day.
